The Shape of the Earth

Even though the ground looks flat when we walk, the Earth is actually round. The real shape is called a geoid, meaning “Earth-shaped”.

      > Long ago, people thought Earth was flat.

      > Explorers like Ferdinand Magellan proved that Earth is round  by  sailing around it.

      > From space, astronauts clearly see Earth as a sphere.
